What January feels like

January is the Valley at its emptiest: snow on the meadows, ice building at the base of the falls, and rangers checking for chains at the gates. Tioga Road and Glacier Point Road are shut for the season, so everything happens on the Valley floor, which runs milder than the rim above it.

Expect about 9 days with something falling — rain, snow, or the sloppy mix in between. about 25 nights dip below freezing.
